Food Sensitivity and Migraines

Food sensitivitiesIn addition to migraines, some of you may know that I have been experiencing some very severe stomach pain over the past few months. Switching to a low-tyramine diet helped my migraines, so I had to think that what I was eating was affecting my stomach pain too. Yesterday, I got tested for food intolerance (also called food non-allergenic hypersensitivity). It was an informative, enlightening, and non-invasive experience that I would really recommend to anyone.

For one thing, it made me appreciate how in tune I am with myself (I have migraines to thank for that!). I had a feeling I was sensitive to dairy, bananas, citrus fruits, alcohol, and shellfish, and the tests showed that I was!

The most surprising thing for me was learning I was highly sensitive to caffeinated, even decaf, products and nightshades. After doing a little research, I learned nightshades are also known as the solanaceae family, which includes tomatoes, potatoes, and eggplant.

My goal is to eliminate these from my diet over the next few months. I’ll get tested again and see if the sensitivities have gone away for good. I am hoping that this helps both my migraine and stomach pain - I am really willing to try anything if it means being potentially being pain free and healthy!

Have you ever been tested for food sensitivities? Do you find that changing your diet helps your pain management?
