What Are You Giving Up (Taking Ownership Of) This Season?

In my faith, a period of fasting starts tomorrow. Society has interpreted this as a time to “give something up” and then promptly indulge as soon as the 40 days are up. No matter what you believe in spiritually, with a change in seasons approaching, now seems to be the perfect time to really get serious about migraines. I’m challenging all M Worders to put your health first this season.

Are you frustrated with your migraines but still drinking a daily cup of coffee or soda?  Having a glass or two of alcohol on Friday or Saturday and wondering why your migraines get worse on the weekends? Or not taking 15 minutes out of your day to do some sort of physical activity (even just in your living room)? Think about the foods you are eating, the drinks you’re consuming, the sleep schedule you maintain, the physical activity you engage in, and the stressors in your life.

It’s time to stop leaving our health to doctors and prescriptions and start taking some ownership.

I encourage each of you to decide today to take ownership of your health and start in one small simple way that you can carry through to the spring. For example, are you serious about getting rid of migraines?

Think about where your priorities lie.

If you’ve decided to put your health first, then it’s maybe time to give up caffeine, including chocolate and caffeinated medicines.  See if you can avoid re-indulging as soon as the time period you’ve set for yourself is up.  That’s one small, but scary step, you can make toward taking ownership of your health.

What will you do to take ownership of your health this season?
